It all starts with an audition and yours could be enough to change your life and music career forever. But what should you expect when you audition for The Shot?

Arriving at your audition
Auditions will take place on Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Holiday Inn, 30 Fairway Rd S, Kitchener, ON starting at 10 a.m. (depending on which date you have selected when you register).

  • Acts are asked to arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled audition time as specified on your registration confirmation e-mail.
  • If you have registered but did not receive confirmation, please contact us at
  • Please bring your a hard copy of your registration confirmation e-mail and a piece of valid identification.
  • Using a guitar: Please make sure you bring it along and that it is properly tuned prior to going in to the audition room.

When you arrive at the Holiday Inn, please look for the registration table where The Shot staff will welcome you and process your registration and you will be given a sticker for you to wear that displays your registration number. The registration number sticker will help the judges to identify you. You will also be asked to sign a waiver allowing for you to be photographed and videoed. Acts under the age of 18 will require a parent or guardian to sign a consent form.

    Waiting to audition
Once you have signed-in at registration, you will be asked to move to a holding area until you are called for your audition. Please expect to wait for an indeterminate amount of time to see the judges. While we try to move acts through the audition process as quickly as possible, waiting may be inevitable and we ask for your patience.

  • While you wait, please use it as an opportunity to make sure your guitar (if you are using one) is properly tuned.
  • Please use the time to warm up your vocal chords, use the washroom and practice your lyrics.
    Going in for your audition
When the judges are ready for you, a staff member will escort you in to the audition room. Here’s how it will go from there:

  • The judges will ask you to take the mark and will ask you some questions (ie. how old you are, where you’re from, etc.)
  • The interview is a very important part of the auditions. It gives the judges with a chance to get to know something unique about you.
  • The judges will ask you to sing 90 seconds or a verse and chorus of a song.
  • You can expect to be stopped at the 90 second mark or before at the judges’ discretion.
  • The judges may request for you to sing a second song at their discretion.
Following your performance, the judges will provide feedback and will vote on whether or not an act will move on to the callbacks round. Acts shall require 3 out of 4 “yes” votes in order to move on to callbacks.

What happens if you make it through?
If you make it through auditions to callbacks, you will be given a Golden Ticket and will be required to come back to Holiday Inn on Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 9am-7pm. Acts unable to attend callbacks for the entire day will not be permitted to continue on in the competition.
