Video auditions for the fifth season of Canada’s biggest and fastest growing singing competition are open now! We’re beginning this new season with video auditions to make the competition more accessible to artists from across Canada and the world.
Jonathan and Music
It started in preschool. He was always singing. In the car, in the bath, at school. He started in choirs and plays at a very young age, and he stuck to it. He’s always had an unexplainable connection with music. No one in Jonathan’s immediate family is musical. No one sings or plays an instrument … he was alone.
Recently, he found out that his great-grandfather was a musician and all of a sudden, everything made sense. It was in his blood, it skipped a couple of generations but it was there.
Some stuff about Trevor
It all started with Guitar Hero. Trevor Dubois, stage name “Charlie the Kid” was 11 years old and he just couldn’t take his hands off of that little plastic guitar.
“It was the bees-knees,” he said with the same excitement that we all know Trevor to have.
From there he discovered so much more. He discovered bass guitar, acoustic and electric guitar. He found singing and song writing, and eventually, he found producing.
A little bit about Yvonne:
Yvonne grew up in a musical family: her mother was a singer and her father played guitar. At a very young age, she knew that one day she would follow in their footsteps and become a musician; and at the age of 15, she did.
She joined the church choir that her mother worked at, and she was in that choir for 22 years. She always studied music in school, she learned how to play the viola, and she took vocal classes, but that just wasn’t enough, and so she took up private lessons.
The Shot confirms that judge Nadia Mazzarolo will not be returning for the show’s 2017 program which includes the highly anticipated All-Stars iteration in June and the fifth season in September. Mazzarolo joined The Shot for its fourth season in November 2016 and led the girls’ group. In addition to judging, Mazzarolo also assisted with securing venues and was involved with public relations.
This June, 16 finalists from seasons 1-4 of The Shot are returning to compete in the ultimate battle of the best!
The All-Stars showdown will include former winners and top 8 finalists. Some of them are looking to hold onto their titles while others are back for redemption and another opportunity at the top prize.
The Shot executive producer and judge C.J. Allen has launched Allegiance Music, a music business agency that will work alongside solo-artists and groups to help them establish, build and successfully manage their goals and their own businesses. The firm will also function as a talent incubator for independent artists and will facilitate the recording, mastering, production and distribution of albums in partnership with AME Recording Studio.
Fresh off her residency performing at the Shangri-la Muscat resort in Oman, season 1-3 judge and accomplished singer-songwriter Joni NehRita is returning to The Shot for season 4 as guest judge for the callbacks and resident mentor. Joni will join veteran judges Juneyt Yetkiner and C.J. Allen along with new judges Nadia Mazzarolo and Danya Dixon at the judges’ table following the auditions which begin November 4.
